Raturn of the Gods:War for the Ages The God King the wealthiest pharaoh of them all. Beginning in 1391 B.C., NebMa'aTRa Amenhotep III was for 38 years the richest man on earth and commander in chief of the largest, best equipped army of its day. A successful though infrequent warrior, he was also a thoroughly cultivated man – religious, literate, and an art lover – at the height of Egypt's Eighteenth Dynasty, what is often called her “Golden Age.” His foreign vassals addressed him as “the Sun,” and he justifiably called himself “dazzling,” here termed “radiant” for his effect on the then-known world. One could search for his equal through all the rulers of ancient Rome, the emperors of China, the kings and queens of England and France, and the czars of Russia and generally come up wanting. His lengthy reign was a period of unprecedented prosperity and artistic splendour, when Egypt reached the peak of her artistic and international power. A 2008 list compiled by Forbes magazine found Amenhotep III to be the twelfth richest person in human history. He built the largest temple in World history 'the temple of a million years' all that survives today is the famous colossus of memnon. When he died (probably in the 39th year of his reign), his son reigned as Amenhotep IV, later changing his royal name to Akhenaten. In fact he was the first monotheist declaring himself the living 'Aten' which was later picked up by his son Akhenaten. Today Amenhotep's grandson Tutankhamun is the most famous pharaoh of them all after his tomb was disturbed by Howard Carter in 1922. The gold and spenders found in the young kings tomb might make you believe he earned all that wealth in his short time on the throne, but truth be told the gold and precious minerals used in Tutankamun's famous mask came from non other than his grandfather the dazzling Sun Amenhotep 3 the ruler of all rulers.
